Find Care & Housing
DSPC: My Mom has Parkinson's. It is one of those "umbrella" illnesses that encompass such a wide variety of symptoms. My Mom's tremors are not much worse now than they were 15 years ago. She is in her 80s and still lives independently (with lots of help from family, of course.)
As far as living independently is concerned, it really depends on how you are able to maneuver in your environment. There are all kinds of devices on the market now that help my Mom do the everyday things. She has a electric bottle opener, tools that helps her do buttons and get dressed, eating and drinking utensils, etc. Exercise to maintain mobility is key. Working out or going to physical therapy often has worked well. Use any devices that keep you safe and balanced like a walker. Also, reduce stress - that seems to trigger more tremors.
Good luck
