I have been told to ask about palliative care for my husband. Where can I find out about this help? I understand it comes before hospice but I need info.

Having a referral from your doc is the first step.

Understand that palliative care at home is not 24/7 care. You will still be the primary caregiver. And palliative does not necessarily mean that doc appointments, etc will be brought into the home. It depends on the provider and patient needs.

I think you mean palliative home care? It’s an approach to health caregiver that focuses on quality of life. You receive certain medical services at home instead having to go in to see your doctor or making a trip to the ER. You basically receive care in your own home. No more doctors appointments and ER visits (unless it’s was truly an emergency).

The first step is to ask your loved one's primary care physician for a referral for Palliative Care, and you will be directed accordingly. Oftentimes, a Hospice agency also provides palliative care. Here is a link to lots of info on the subject from a company called Compassus (here in Colorado) that provides both Palliative and Hospice care:

Compassus has lots of locations across the USA, so check the bottom of the link to see if they have an office in your area.

You can also Google "How to find Palliative Care in my area" and see what comes up. But again, your LOs PCP is your first step.

Best of luck!
