Dealing with financials, can I have mom cover part of the cost of the new vehicle since she is the reason we had to get it? I loved the vehicle I had but she had trouble getting in and out of it. So that’s why we had to get a van.

No. If she needs Medicaid within 5 yrs they would consider the money she gives you a gift.

I do not think she can directly pay for the van, but maybe someone here knows if she can pay mileage for taking her to doctors

money spent on her care and on her needs isn’t considered a gift. If she’s on Medicaid for health insurance then....it’s income based and there is no lookback so she do what she wants with her money, so helping you buy a van will not impact her current eligibility. Just document this in writing in case she needs long term care within the next 5 years.

Worried, I look at this like moving a parent in with you and doing work in the bath to make it accessible or u add on a room. Medicaid doesn't allow parent to use their money for the remodel. Basically, because if u sell the house u profit off the remodel. Not that u can profit off the sale of a car. But Mom doesn't drive the Van and she isn't a co-owner. Maybe a question for Medicaid?
