The VA offers several service connected and non-service connected programs. If dad is disabled as a result of service he should seek compensation. If not, he should seek the highest level improved pension he can qualify for.
What state do you live in? Does it have a Medicaid nursing home long-term care diversion program? In Florida this program allows those who would otherwise qualify for Medicaid nursing home benefits receive services at home.

I agree. You can receive up to $1009 a month through the VA. My mother was just apporoved for the max. She lives at home with me, but the extra funds have made it possible for me to obtain additional help at home that is needed. I contacted www.veteransfinancial.com . I was sent the form, had help completing it, after it was complete sent all the paperwork and was reviewed for errors and additiona info needed. I was approved within a month due to the assistance I recieved
My father was in the airforce and died in the70s. My mother never remarried and has received VA benefits ever since his death. I believe it's about $1,195 per month. Now we are applying for Aide and Attendance, which according to the person at VA administration will only be another $390 per month. It will definitely help. A living veteran can receive much more. Call the VA directly. Just leave your number and they will call you back in about 1/2 hour.
