There have been several incidents of hallucinations lately, and many times of shouting out, tossing, falling out of bed, etc. When he mentions it, should I tell him details, or try to detract from that conversation?

Detract him; there's no need for him to be embarrassed over behavior he can't control.

But when he's out of sight, keep track of the incidents and see if you can find a way to quietly and subtly implement measures to avoid his becoming injured, such as when he falls out of bed.

There have been other posts with readers' advice on what they did - put mattresses of various sorts on the floor to cushion the fall if someone does lose his/her balance and take a tumble.

It does sound as if there are some anger issues though; are these channeled toward you?

I don't think so, GardenArtist.

My husband used to do this almost every night. I guess he got in a half dream state or something and would act out something attacking etc. Once it was a tiger and I woke to him grabbing me around the throat. As he woke up he explained this was what he had been dreaming. His MD put him on 25 mg of amitriptyline at night and it all stopped. But I can tell when he hasn't taken it as he will shout out in his sleep etc. I have since read that this is not uncommon with some (mostly men?) as they age.
