She has to move very soon because my father is going to a nursing home and she can't afford rent currently with only her SS check. Local auction companies are not being helpful. Should I do facebook market place, craigslist, etc? Let me know what worked best for you.

For my mom, we did a combination of an estate sale I ran myself and craigs list. We also used the Freecycle app. We also gave 6 carloads of stuff to Goodwill.

AJ, first check out Barb's suggestion. If you don't feel you can afford an attorney, still research, select a few attorneys that meet your standards, call and ask about payment plans and other options.

Or, just to get started, call the local Senior Centers and ask if they have free attorney visits. In our area, most of them do. You can get limited free advice; make sure they understand you're asking for your mother.

If your mother's doesn't offer this, call other Senior Centers and inquire if you can get advice from their consult-an-attorney services.

Is your father going to be on private pay at the center he's going to?

SD Medicaid does not offer spousal support when both spouses are on medicaid even if one remains at home with Medicaid-paid-for home health. Medicaid will be paying for my dad's NH.
