She tends to do strange things (mild dementia?) now puts stuff in tissues so I just throw out. Now I think she put her beautiful Cross ring her mom gave her in tissue or napkin. Or it fell in toilet as I do kitchen stuff while she's on the throne... she doesn't remember (but she takes stuff off and on a lot now) I feel so bad. She keeps asking for it. Please pray I find it and any suggestions how to keep loose rings on her fingers? Many Thanks everyone!!

I really advise you to rethink attempting to have her wear her rings, especially any that have financial or sentimental value. If she is adamant then have them resized by a jeweller (not as expensive as you may imagine).

A jeweler can put these little balls on the inside of the band. I have 2 on each side and it can keep the ring in place. You would have to hope it could still go over the knuckle. Instead could you put the rings on a chain to wear around her neck. I also feel that as she ages she might lose the rings if she is stuffing items in Kleenex. I hope you find a solution.

Wrap string around a part of the ring that will be on the underside of her finger until there is enough to keep the ring in place. Or put it on a necklace, like a pendant. That's what girls did in high school when wearing their boyfriend's class ring.

Loose rings can be resized to fit. But that really doesn't address the problem does it? It's the wrapping up things in tissues. Unless you make them so tight that she can't take them off, that's still going to be a problem.

Both my grandma and mom do the same thing. So it seems it's characteristic of at least elderly women. Grandma and mom's jewelry has steadily disappeared over the years. I have no doubt they are sitting in the landfill. I routinely do a check of their garbage to see if there's anything in there before throwing it away. I've found jewelry and big wads of money wrapped up in tissue. It would be easier if it was just a few wads. But grandma in particular will burn through an entire 220 count box in an afternoon making wads. Her reasoning is that it makes it harder for a thief to find whatever she wadded up to hide. Guess what grandma, it makes it harder me to find that too when you throw it all in the trash. I don't check anything she throws in the commode. Can't do it. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if she's flushed a few things.

What can you do? Short of taking it all away and locking it up, not much. I figure, they might as well enjoy it now if only to end up throwing it away instead of that. Since it might as well have been thrown away if they no longer have access to it.

Can you go to a resale store or dollar store and buy a lot of costume jewelry rings and slowly replace the good ones with the costume. This way the good stuff is safe and if the costume stuff goes missing it is not a big deal.

My other though was a necklace with the rings on it. Just hope she can not get the necklace off. And if she likes to look at and touch the rings she may take the necklace off then all of the rings will be gone.

There are little metal pieces that you can attack to the ring to size it but it would be easier to get them off in an emergency.

Ask St Anthony to help you find the ring.

Can also roll a little bit of masking tape or cloth tape on the back of the ring to make it hold better.

Would she be able to safely wear the ring on a chain/necklace?

What if you take the rings and put them all in a shadow box, make a pretty presentation and make it difficult for her to open the box? Then she can see them and they are safe for viewing.

No more wrapping up in tissue!

OR...put them in a safety deposit box. Take a photo and show her when necessary.

Ty so much, all good responses. The box is nice but she cant see. I just saw something on t.v. for loose rings it's almost like tape put on inside of the ring. I wish I had a clear mind to think of it before it got lost or gone for good. Maybe it will show up. It's so hard I can't watch her every second. She's getting irritated alot and very stubborn too. Ty for your help and kindness.

You can get very pretty ring trees, which you could maybe put out of reach but where she can see it?

I feel for you about the wrapping things in tissue. Isn't it just one of the strangest little old lady habits?

I know of only two ways to find lost treasures

1. Urgently need to find something else.
2. Flashlight at floor level. Not so reliable but I have found hearing aid batteries and spectacle screws this way.

TY ...I will use the flashlight but what does #1 mean, replace the ring? Also ring tree is great if only she could see again. Appreciate you and others responses.
