Drinking 8 ounces of hard alcohol every two hours.

As others have said, alcohol detoxification is deadly. Please get him to a detox where he will be put on a medical protocol or anti seizure meds and things to make him comfortable to dry out. That is a huge amount of alcohol for anyone to be drinking. It is also likely he will have nutritional issues, his potassium levels are probably bottomed out and he will need hospitalization to sort that out as well...not to mention liver damage and possible alcohol induced dementia.

If this person has all his faculties (which I doubt) and chooses no detox...then remove yourself from the situation. You can't force a competent person to stop drinking. If this person is completely drunk and out of it, you can call an ambulance and have them taken to a hospital for treatment. Refuse to take them back until they are on a program.

NO don't cut him off cold turkey, it could kill him. Water it down when he is not looking. Switch him to beer if you can. Definitely talk to the MD about B1 shots, because alcoholics deplete B1 (thiamine) and that leads to dementia.

If he is drinking that much alcohol, I would be scared of immediate withdrawal. I would ask a Dr. or detox facility about it. He may need to be under medical care in order to detox off of it.

Cut off his source. Don't buy it for him or allow in the house. If there is a liqueur store he frequents, you could talk to them and ask them to refuse to sell it to him per doctors orders. Dilute the bottles.

Just say no. If they live with you, tell them you will not allow alcohol in your house and if they can't abide by that, then they can move into other residential place. That means you don't drink in the house either.

Call or write to his doctor and make them aware of the problem.

It's serious with meds and this seems like a lot. Frankly, I wouldn't put up with it and if I could reason with them, I'd tell them as long as they continue the behavior I am stepping down from all visits, calls, assistance, helping them. Then I would do so.
