Contact local hospitals and facilities that not only would have a professional/medical interest in sponsorship, but also a clientele with families that might be interested.

Agreeing that it's best to check what is already happening in your area, and to be sensible about not disclosing your own address or exposing yourself to risk...

I think that's a great idea, and I wish you every success with it :)

If you start your own group, do not host the gatherings at your house or grandma's house. Meet at the library, a local diner, Panera or some such.

For safety/security reasons, do not give strangers the opportunity to size up your home....and/or take a mental inventory of grandma's valuables and painkillers. Better safe than sorry.

Help have you checked the alzheimer's association to see if there are support groups in your area? Assisted Living facilities often have them, some churches, etc. Why do you want to start your own?
