If I live in NY and my Dad lives in NJ. Is it practical for me to be his guardian when there are other family members in NJ? How often do you have to go to court and where would this court be? (Which state) Can a NY lawyer take care of this issue?

It depends on where dad is going to live. If Dad is going to stay in NJ you should consult with a NJ guardianship attorney. Each county is somewhat different so I'd recommend an attorney in the county that your dad lives in. Being a guardian is a huge responsibility- check out what your responsibilities will be in advance before stepping into this new role.
