Paying for Assisted Living & Home Care in California

"Based on the geographic region of the state, the average monthly cost ranges from $3,150 to $5,595."

https://www.payingforseniorcare.com/financial-assistance/california.html

You should be aware that it is "a la carte" which means that base amount is for no extra services beyond a base cost. If you need your mom to be given meds, or for someone to do her laundry, etc., the cost goes up with each additional requested service.

Medicare does not pay for it. Medicaid can, but she will have to meet the financial criteria (basically she can't have anything except her SS and a house, which the govt will go after once she passes.) You are now on a learning curve...keep using this site as there are many knowledgeable people here who can provide accurate and very helpful info. Good luck!

Its not true that In order to qualify for medi-cal she can’t have anything but and a house. The source of income doesn’t matter, it’s the amount of income you have. The amount in this state is $2,000 per month for a single individual. And no the government will not come after the house after she dies, it’s an exempt asset. She can keep the house, there will be no lein. MERP won’t go after it.
