My mom is in a nursing home with dementia. My father is still fairly well and on his own. The issue is I worry more about him than my mother. Everything that can be done is being done for her. Is anyone else dealing with this? I can leave my mom and get a break, but do not feel like leaving my Dad as his needs are ever increasing.

Like Countrymouse I am also wondering if he is able to get to the NH to spend time daily (or often) to spend time with your mom and maybe participate in activities with her and continue to be her husband and friend and advocate.

What would your father like? Talk to him about your concerns first, and explain that for him to continue to support your mother it's vitally important for him to be taken care of too.

If he is going to keep up his independence and morale, it's equally important that you don't charge in and do everything for him. There will be other, better ways.

Is he able to visit your mother frequently? What sort of house does he live in? Has he always been pretty self-sufficient on the domestic front, or did he depend on her for such things as cooking and laundry?
