My mother fell while she was in a memory care unit and broke her hip. She spent three days in the hospital and then was released to a rehab center. They now say she has stop progressing with rehab after 30 days. How can we get them to rehab her with Medicare paying for the full 100 days.

The argument in my mothers situation was that she could/wouldn't do the exercises the PT taught without the PT actually being there. That every time the PT came she had to start from scratch since my mother was unable to remember the exercises from one week to the next and she was unable to follow the printed instructions and diagrams. I get it - but yes, it's sad.

Thanks for the answers. Mom's friend fell & broke her hip & she got 100 days therapy but she doesn't have alzheimers. The alzheimers patient gets less sad. I'm sure you all feelthe same so sad they paid into this system for years & get so little help

Louise210, my Mom just couldn't do any of the rehab after her fall at home because of complications from a brain injury due to that fall. Thus after 20 or 21 days, Medicare stopped paying the full amount. I was hoping my Mom could get those100 days, but unfortunately since she wasn't responding to therapy, she couldn't. My Mom had to go into long-term-care on self-pay.

The answer is you can't. Once the PT has determined the patient is no longer progressing Medicare will no longer pay to provide the care. Just happened to my mom this past November.
