The owner of an assisted livig facility abuses drugs and Alochol on and off the preimises. She works the 12 am to 8 am shift sunday thru thrus. she comes and relieves the 4 pm to 12 pm worker. Then goes down the in the basement to go to sleep leaving the residents upstairs all night unattended. she still be downstairs when the 8 am person comes in. I really do not feel that the residents are in a stable assisted living home.

Start with reporting to the police and the local dept of social services. This is a serious accusation. Be sure you have the facts and not just rumors or are not caught up in some employee feud.

Cheryle, curious how do you know this "information"? Just wonder how this worker can work 2 shifts back to back 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. If the information is accurate about her sleeping in the basement, no wonder, she is burnt out. She needs to hire someone for one of those shifts.

I also wonder how you've become aware of this situation, and how someone can work from 4 pm to 12 pm, then straight into a 12 am to 8 am shift.

Also, who is in a position to observe that the alcohol abuse takes place both on and off the premises? That person might be called on for more detailed information when the charge is reported.

I can understand that workers and residents may observe this behavior on the premises. Friends or family might see it off the premises. But who's in the middle coordinating the input of the information - i.e., who's seeing both sides, and more specifically, has any intervention taken place? Has this woman been counseled, advised to join AA or be fired?

You state she leaves the residents unattended at night; how does this happen if she's working the 12 am to 8 am shift?

If she is in fact using both alcohol and drugs while working, she's a major danger to herself and the patients. The police could be contacted for the drug issue. If verified, they could also initiate investigations with other affected authorities, such as SS as Windy suggests.

To asnwer all the questions at once. First of all she only does the 12a to 8a
the 4p to 12a person has seen her doing the the drugs on the premisses and the off premisses plenty people have seen it and came back to the employess to let them know what she has been doing. she has been offered assistance from emoplyee to clean her act up and has deined the treatment. she gets the state called on her on a regular bases and she keeps getting away with it because the 8a to 4p person keep inabling her and lying for her. she is a very disrespectful person to her employees and residents. she gets into arguments with her in employees right in front of the reisedents. very unprofessional.

Third hand information cannot be relied on. See it yourself. Go there at 12 am and see if she is sober and awake. Stay all night before you decide.

This is serious stuff and needs to be reported asap. If you have a family member here I would move them. There are so many terrible things that can happen with a drunk asleep in the wheelhouse with residents all alone.

I really question that the alleged druggie is "getting away with it" because someone is covering for her. Police can mandate a urine test to determine the presence of drugs. They don't always just take someone's word for it.

Why is the OWNER of an assisted facility working a shift I wonder? In the UK while she/he may take over one duty they would never take over 2 but would do what we call an on call shift - that means they sleep on the premises but are on call if needed Either way I am assuming you mean she is taking class A drugs as opposed to smoking a cigarette and is having a lot to drink as opposed to one small glass of wine with her meal. Drunk and stoned is not acceptable. Cigarettes and the odd glass of wine? not so good for your health but nothing I would report so long as it is only one glass of wine not the bottle
