How do I deal with sundowners?

Has she been seen by a geriatric psychiatrist? Has the primary care physician who is treating her been informed about her symptoms?

There is always a possibility of a UTI.... sounds like a trip to the dr is in order and tell him/her of your moms issues..... it may be something physical along with the sundowning.... please let us know how you and her are doing.

Yes we have had her to a Dr.. They called it "Sundowners" with deimincha, (SP?). Has been coming on for sometime. But about a month ago she became dehydred and had a blatter infection. This sent her over or around the bend. It's more of a memotional roller coaster then before. The doctors said she needed to be in a care home. But e don't have any good one's within 80 miles or more. So here I am.

I had to make the difficult decision to place my mom in a care facility because of a number of issues one of being the sundowners. I had her sleeping with me so I knew where she was at night time and knew when she got up. I got our family doctor to give her a mild sleeping pill which I gave her just before she went to bed. That gave me about 5-6 hours of sleep. Don't give her any caffeine. That also helps a little as my mom liked to have a coffee or tea before bed as well.

Seroquel for my husband having extreme sundowning. First dose and it was gone but I'm not saying this works like that for everyone but it stopped the rages...
