Would your Mother be able to pay you and your wife out of her Social Security and/or pension [if any]? Usually that is one way to get paid as Caregivers. You would need to draw up a written contract as to the number of hours and the hourly rate, or flat rate. You will need to be responsible to pay your own payroll taxes.
Otherwise, check with you local Council on Aging to see what free benefit would be available to help you out. Such as an Aide coming to the house couple times a week to help out.
