Hi n Thank u for taking my question, I take care of my mom who has Alzheimer's (8 yrs) she's to the moderate to severe stage needs 24-hour care two 12-hour shifts I'm having a very difficult time trying to convince the insurance of providing that, they will give 24 hour live in which is impossible when dealing with someone with Alzheimer's dementia I work 12 hours through the night and I have people helping me through the day for the other 12 hours, she now has wounds and has to be moved every 2 hours on a 24-hour scale. I'm providing all this information 2 VNS but still difficulties..does anybody know how to get around this hurdle because one person taking care of a person with Alzheimer's for 24 hours for 3 days will get Alzheimer's themselves she also has periods of no sleeping n wants to go home which Sundowning, Thank you.

Usually long term care insurance is purchased with a set amount for care per day. If you buy the $100 a day policy, that is all you get. It may actually be cheaper for you to move her to a memory care facility. Having a per diem policy opens a door to a better facility.

Mary, am I reading this correctly that your Mom's insurance will cover 24 hour live-in home care? Is this insurance long-term-care?

You are correct, your Mom would need around the clock care, as you definitely need to work, plus get a good night [day] sleep. Same with a 24-hour caregiver. Yes, two shifts would work the best. I wonder if the insurance carrier is trying to force you to have your Mom move to a Memory Care center or nursing home? As it would be less expensive then hiring 2 full-time shifts for each day.
