I am considering Assisted Living possibilities in New York State. Are there any online sites where I can access passed survey results of Assisted Living Programs?

Medicare provides a nursing home compare site.  I've never checked to locate one for AL facilities, but I would start with a search for "assisted living facilities" and subsearch for evaluations, comparisons, etc.

You might also search NY, Assisted Living Facilities comparison, or similar search parameters.

Or call NY government, search for an Elder Care division, call them.   Same issue with a local county, they might be able to reference a state agency.

The state certifies/regulates all homes, you can view any violations and the outcomes.

I placed my mother in a 5 star Medicare rated Skilled Nursing Facility for rehab back in May of this year. The place was SO bad, it felt like a 19th century insane asylum, to tell you the truth! It took me 5 days to get her OUT of there since it was Memorial Day weekend. They had her hooked up to an oxygen canella with NO oxygen, no teeth brushing or showers, no physical therapy......the whole experience was horrifying. I had to stay there practically full time to make sure they didn't kill her.
If I were you, I wouldn't rely solely on "Medicare ratings" for Assisted Living Facilities. It's a racket, in my opinion, a 'who you know' situation rather than a real rating for quality of care. Go visit some places and talk to the residents and the staff; how do THEY like living there and WORKING there? THEY are the people who will give you an accurate assessment of the quality of the community you are considering.

Best of luck!

I had my mother in a facility in NY. We then moved to SC. The rates in NY will vary depending on where in the state you are considering. If you choose a for profit facility that is one of a chain you may be less happy then if you are able to find a not for profit facility. I don't know if money is an issue. In the for profit facilities you will experience a significant increase each year. This can be stressful and is also the same for the residents who are aware of the increases. Generally I would say that the closer you are to NYC even if not within the city the rates are higher. People do tend to review facilities. I could be wrong but I doubt facilities would release surveys they have sent residents. I realize I have mainly covered the issue of costs. There are certainly other factors but not knowing more about your situation it is the one I have discussed. I also found more rigidity with a for profit place in certain other areas. That could be fine for some but was not the preference for us.
