My beloved mother has misplaced her purse. She discovered it was missing on Thursday afternoon when we were leaving to go to my cousins house. She still can't find it and wants me to help look for it. I never touch her purse and I try not to go into their room because IF she is missing so much as $1 or a paper clip she accuses me.

This is a big deal because the remaining cash from her pension check, checkbook, along with all her store credit cards and her drivers license and other ID were in that purse. This is bad, Very, VERY BAD!!

What if the CNA that hospice sent, on Wednesday, to bathe my dad took it?? She was a substitute and not the regular girl.

Please tear that house up looking for that purse before you accuse someone... I am a paid caregiver and know that trust is always an issue.... my charge recently passed away , but I am still taking care of her husband... I needed the clippers to cut fingernails... they weren't in there ususal place.... NO WAY was I going to go thru things to find them... called the son, he told me where they were, but I felt strange being given permission to 'search'.... no....
Unfortuntley these things do happen, but please make absoultely sure before you take any further action.... but if in fact the purse is gone....notify the agency of your suspiscions....

@ladee I totally agree with what you said here because it happens where one can accuse someone of stealing and they are there to help. My father too has misplaced money and things and I would be livid if he ever thought I stole from him. Sometimes the medications make them place things somewhere and they can accuse so I can totally understand your position as a paid caretaker what you have to go through. It is no piece of cake that is for sure.

@countrygirl - Something I forgot to include in my first response to you. If indeed those credit cards are missing and her license as well, please contact those card companies to report those cards missing, so no one will use them. That would be my first concern with all the identity theft and fraud that is going on lately. There is valuable information in the wallet that you do not want to get into the wrong persons hands. I doubt seriously the caretaker would take a complete purse out of a home, but then again I am not to say what happened with your mothers purse. Just suggestions. I would hunt all over the area where she was and where she went and call the stores or wherever you think she may have lost it. You may have already done this so disregard my suggestions if they do not work for you. I hope you find it and I hope you report those credit cards RIGHT AWAY!

CountryAngel, I hope the purse is still around the house. I remember a story of a woman who was concerned that people would take her purse and jewelry, so she hid it outside in a secret place. Her belongings kept disappearing, so she was sure that people were taking them. It wasn't until after they were cleaning up her property after she died that they found the cache of "stolen" items.

In another case, a woman noticed her mother was taking things to a certain hiding place. The woman would retrieve them from the hiding place whenever her mother reported them stolen.

I don't know how advanced your mother's dementia is, but can you think of any secret hiding place she might favor? This happens sometimes with dementia. Have you checked her credit card accounts to see if there has been any activity on the cards? I hope not.

Fingers crossed the purse shows up today.

I would hate to think anyone who works or volunteers for Hospice would steal a thing from someone's home. All I read is good things about Hospice. I have recently had them in my home for the past month. If you suspect anything on the CNA you can call the Hospice but without any proof it is hard to say. I hope you get her things back. I would be searching all over the place. It is possible your mother misplaced it? Just some of my thoughts this morning.

First you have to do a thorough search of your mom's home and car. Whether or not you are comfortable, she may have hidden it from herself.
