my mother lived for about 8-10 days after she stopped eating. her digestive system had been going downhill for some time. hospice said it was pointless to try to make her eat or drink. a good meal was one of the few enjoyments left in moms life and when she couldn't even eat because of poor digestion I feel like there was nothing left in her life but illness and misery. I miss her terribly but I understand that her body gave up on her, it was time to go. the dead digestive system was poisoning her.

It's hard for anyone to know, honey, especially those of us who are not able to see her, or are medical professionals. That said, hospice may be able to give you some indication of the timeline. She may have stopped eating today - but tomorrow, she may decide to eat.

Love your Mom today...

Good afternoon, I feel your pain. If Mom has been in Hospice for such a long period you already know the docs misdiagnosed her time of passing. They cannot judge past a few hours. Mom may just not be hungry today, it happens sometimes. Is there any particular reason you don't want to get a "G" tube placed into her stomach? They can sustain her with liquid nutrients. Don't worry about whether or not it is time to let her go, Love, Cheerish and Enjoy the warmth of your Mom Always.

My understanding is that hospice can be called in when a dr. has diagnosed a person's health as not going to get better...not just for end of life support. I was told when my father was at the end, that a feeding tube at that point in time would make him miserable from bloating since the body is not digesting the food. Can your mother be put on an IV drip for pain?

yes docs have said that G tube will only give her loose bowel movement since it is just feeding her through tube but she cant digest...and she is in fetus position..to take her to hospital insert her tube..she has no flesh on her she is so bony...we also feel too much pain for her....as for she stopped eating i meant she cant open her mouth anymore...my fear i aware parkinsons is painful disease her body aches bones aches too...if she unable to open her mouth anymore...she wont be able to take any pain killer i so afraid she will be in so much pain before she departs....
