His solution is to play his music to fall asleep each night. Great solution right? Well, he retires late night, midnight or so, and takes his hearing aides out to sleep. The music he plays to lull him to sleep may sound like a whisper to him but is actually decibels I have not heard late night since my children were teens. He likes it on all night. I looked for head phones but am not sure how comfortable for him these will be. We need our sleep too. There's got to be something out there to solve this little dilemma. Any ideas???

There is a flat round speaker that lays under the pillow so when you lay down you hear the music or talking, whatever you are listening to. I use to use it all the time and it worked well.

Some good answers but sounds like Dad needs sleep too. I know how you feel. My 97yr. Mother goes to bed before dark and wakes up at all hours calls or comes looking for me. I slip her 1/2 of a Advil PM or a 3mg tablet of Melatonin(Dr recomended. The Advil leaves me a bit sleey but it isn't bad. Haven't tried the Tylonal PM. Sure beats waking up a zombie or a grouchy old bear because of lack of sleep. Hang in there I know how you feel. They won't live forever---I hope.

Pillow speakers have been available for years but newer technology lately has made the sound quality very high. Just google "pillow speakers hard of hearing" to start your research.

Thank you for the ideas. With his other meds and the dementia we are leary to add any additional medications unless absolutely necessary. Might try the fan with hopes he does not freak out with the possible temperature change using the fan. I will look for the speaker system too. I just know we all need sleep!!!

I have trouble sleeping and i have had to resort to taking an OTC med. I use the one called ZZZZs. But, I would have no idea whether your FIL could use it or not. Most elderly sleep all day and then, complain that they can't sleep at night.

My son has had severe to moderate hearing loss since he was born. He has slept with a fan on for as long as I can remember and he is now 22 yrs old. Something about the humming of the fan and the movement of the air has soothed him to sleep.

I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but I work for Sound Product Solutions who has developed a wireless speaker system called the Audio Fox that sounds like it would work good for your situation. It's a set of wireless speakers on straps that could be attached to his headboard and positioned next to his head. There are no headphones to wear and he can get the sound right next to him. Hope this helps, good luck!
