I find my stomach is holding foods and not releasing due to tension and I am wanting nutrition ideas to help this. I can see that potato chips are a "no" though they ARE good. I tried oatmeal this morning and it definitely helped and I was calmer. I need MUCH calming. Thanks, cadams

It will take at least a few days to get regular. Regular oatmeal for breakfast is a great idea. Switch it up by adding different fruits like banana, apple, dates, etc. Add whole grains like brown rice to dinner. Eat dark green vegetables and whole fruits, which are rich in fiber. Instead of potato chips, bake a potato and enjoy it with a serving of sour cream or plain yogurt and fresh or dried chives, green onion, and/or parsley. Physical activity is also essential.

Medical researchers at Stanford's Medical School found that caregiving stress on the body lasts for as much as three *years* after the death of the loved one. Your body is showing symptoms now and it's good that you are listening to your body.

It's good you are listening to your body and taking action to help your own health. I didn't do that and it caught up with me a year later. All kind of things happened to me, from dental to medical problems. Listen to your body.

I think that each person has their own particular needs for digestion. Things that work for most people don't work for me at all. In fact they do the opposite. I can't eat oatmeal or too many dark greens like spinach. For others that works. I do quite well with things like peaches, nectarines, pears, melons, squash, peppers and a fair amount of water.

I don't go crazy with drinking fluids, but just make sure I drink enough. I read somewhere recently that the media and beverage companies have convinced the public that we are thirsting to death, when we aren't. lol

Thanks for the input. I badly need it. I only mentioned the stomach tension issue, but it certainly is not the only one. Even my teeth were starting to disintegrate and I had to have new caps put on......about $5m of work. I'm also dealing with vertigo, ear wax , UTI.........it just seems one thing after another but the one that is troubling me most right now is the stomach tension. I went out today and even bought a really pretty moo-moo dress to increase relaxation and decrease any clothing restrictions. It feels great!
I will definitely take your suggestions to heart. I didn't know it would take some time for my body to regulate better. Makes sense. I also didn't know it would take 3 yrs. to recuperate. It helps to know all this so I can realize that it's just all part of the caregiving journey....... cadams

Mix in a capful of Miralax every few days or sprinkle on foods; mix in applesauce, etc. That will keep you regular; improve the bloat and flatten tummy. You'll feel better without a laxative effect.
Improve your diet as others suggested. Its ok to treat youself to a few chips as a snack--that means portion control of limiting yourself to 10 chips or so. Also give up the soft drinks and alcohol if you do that now. Make sure you are drinking 8 glasses of liquids a day. Also limit dairy. Stress from caregiving takes a long time to recuperate from. Spend alot of quiet time outdoors to renew your spirit and quiet the soul.
