My Alz sister gets terrible headaches daily along her forehead, particularly above her right eye. Anyone else seeing this happen? It's a constant struggle. Nothing seems to control it.
Something that may seem a little off the wall but that helped my mom's chronic headaches was applying Voltaren Emulgel (her doctor thought it was an brilliant idea).
She sees a neurologist and has CT scans regularly. They don't have any answers, assuming it's sinuses because she has allergies. But she's been staying with me in a pet-free household for three weeks and now never even has to use her nasal spray. (previously living with her daughter, they had three cats and a dog.) She takes a daily allergy pill, but still gets these headaches.
I just wondered if it's something that other Alzheimer patients experience that hasn't yet been acknowledged as an Alz symptom.
I agree about having a doctor evaluate. It could be anything, like sinus, allergy, eye problem, stroke, etc. I know several people who had benign brain tumors that were successfully removed by surgery. I also know several who have migraines. There are new medications for that now, including botox injections. I'm not kidding. Also, I recently talked to someone who tried everything for headaches and finally got relief from having a nerve in her ear pierced! I'm not kidding. I've never heard of it, but, I might explore it, if all else fails.
She needs to see a neurologist for these headaches which could be caused by a wide variety of things. I have migraines myself, and a neurologist prescribed Topomax which does control them quite well, fortunately. But your friend needs to get serious problems ruled out FIRST, which a neurologist can do by ordering tests, etc.
