I am in desperate need of help myself. My mother lives in her own home and refuses to move out but needs help more and more all the time because of early Dementia, arthritis and other problems and she cannot drive anymore. I quit my job and moved in with her, I have spent all my savings paying my own bills and now I am completely broke. She is very well off but because she pays the bills for house and food she says I deserve nothing else. I gave up my life and my future for her and really need help to continue doing this. Is there any help, she refuses to help me.

Call your local Area Agency on Aging.

Your mom is well off, so she won't qualify for Medicaid, which in some states will pay a family member a small amount for caregiving.

Your mom could pay you for what you are doing for her, but it does not sound as though that is likely to happen.

You really need to get back to work. Make a plan, spend more time out of the house. Go to the library. Once you are working again, find a place to live.

Do you accompany your mother to doctor appointments? What doe her doctor think her level of need for caregiving is? Has s/he discussed this with your mom?

The problem you have now is that you didn't iron all this out before moving in with her.

You should have PoA. But, since you do not...and it looks like she isn't going to give it to you or provide any kind of payment...

You need to get a job and move out. Let your mother pay for in home care from an agency.

Time for you to put your own life back on track.

Are you in her will or trust to inherit her wealth?

Unfortunately there are a lot of myths out there saying one can get this or that for caring for a love home at home. It all depends on the situation, case by case basis.

Since your Mom can afford to stay in her house, it would be up to her to give you financial aid since you choose to leave your job and home to take care of her. I also don't see that happening.

You really need to get back into the work force and save like crazy for your own retirement. Mom can afford to hire someone to take care of her.

I'm on disability and i was working part time but I can't work anymore because she can't be left alone. I owe 20 more years on my mortage and i need to work some. She isn't eligible for Medicaid. She needs pretty much 24 hours a day care because she is 86 and bedridden. I don't want to put her in a nursing home. Is there any financial help for me? She only has burial insurance. I need help but don't know what I can do. Please help me find some help in Mississippi.

snookams, why won't your mom qualify for Medicaid?

New York state will pay a family caregiver when elder is on Medicaid. Other states will oay a small stipend, usuallg less than $1,500.00 a month. Rules are different from state to state.

You have gone through savings? If mom will not execute a care agreement with you your only option is getting back to work. Find your own place to live.
