What are good items to purchase for a nursing home resident to facilitate a spend down and maintain Medicaid eligibility?

Make sure she gets a monthly visit with the on site beauty salon and a monthly podiatry check with the visiting podiatrist.

I am not sure what is paid for post medicaid, but here are some expenses that wereincurred during my Mom's stay in AL. Eyeglasses (the old ones were 'sat on'. Cataract style sun glasses (old ones got broken). If she uses a hearing aid, batteries are expensive. Does she need a good lamp - the facility ones are often pretty basic. A VERY simple radio (pre set) to an appropriate music station.

Oh, I had another thought. When my cousin was first in Assisted Living she was not happy with her mattress. She pitched a fit and said it was too hard. The AL told me they provided her with the best they had and if she wasn't happy, she could purchase her own mattress. I priced some, but before I bought it, the AL told me they had another one in storage they would try with her and it worked great, so I never had to buy her another mattress, even when she went to Memory Care. I'm not sure if the mattress would be allowed, since the facility is supposed to buy it, but if she needs something better to help her sleep, then I wonder if it would be allowed. Maybe, someone who knows could chime in with that info.

Is she in a wheelchair? What about a nice cushion. I'm not sure if they are covered by Medicare or not. If you can't get a prescription for one, I guess you would have to pay out of pocket.

Also, what about those life like pets that breathe. She might actually enjoy one of those. They sleep and appear to move as they breathe. Some seniors find them quite amusing. I think they are rather pricey. I bought one once online.

Also, nice walking shoes are always a good thing to have. My cousin is in a wheelchair and she still wears her shoes out propelling herself with her feet. And she always needs new socks.

What about nice bras. I keep having to buy my cousin bras as they get lost or broken in the driers. At least that's what I'm told. They can be pricey too.

Somehow, my cousin's radio was broken, so I have to get her a new one.

I hope I others will respond here, as I would like input on this question.

Does she have a burial plot. Is her funeral paid for. These are things that are allowed.
