Reason my mom was in hospital was last week when she was acting out couldn't control her trying to put diaper on her she was hitting no big deal but just wouldn't work .also earlier she had been screaming then I looked in my cameras I have set up and noticed she had taken off diaper and just peeing in bed tried again same thing so I stopped went sat down was very upset usually if I tried to give medicine at that point she will just spit out or refuse to take.so called 911.When they came Mom was in back heard her saying abuse so then police was called they checked things out said all was ok realized Mom has Dementia off Mom went to hospital and police left. Now prior to this Nurse that comes here twice a week from Bayada Nurses took urine culture and it was positive for uti infection .Explained all this at hospital they took test to check that and urine was clear I told them maybe showed up clear because they had put her on Cipro well that was 100 percent ignored also let them know she had nine pills left to take and they ignored again due to test at hospital with urine clear they would not continue with cipro for her.Which I was very upset because her behavior is horrible when she has an infection. So then due to her insurance company they wanted to do further evaluation so they moved her to hospital where her Doctors are for that insurance. That is when all my issues started. Yes my mom does have Dementia took to Doctor 3half weeks ago told me her dementia was moderate to severe whatever that means that to is also in middle of infection so do no know if that is 100 percent right or not. When I went to see her Doctors said felt she was having reaction to her meds that was why acting out well taken care of her for 14 years I knew that was wrong..They still would not listen about infection and did not care for her to finish her cipro which till now do not understand! So that's when put her on drug that made her worse husband noticed also her caregiver I use for her noticed that to.Doctor came in Moms room told me I could not take her home in my custody due to comments that were made for abuse then I got more more upset was calm at hospital but I did leave. Made phone calls a lot of them concerning issues I do also have social workers I see on regular basis so back and forth this went Mom was acting out would not give her nothing to help her sleep my words were no good, course getting more upset this went on for a week .Then also was told adult protective services were contacted which is true they were here yesterday. Let me back up one day over past weekend I was in living room heard knocking at door thought might be social worker well who was it but the police 2 of them stating my Mom had told hospital I was here committing suicide so hospital called police and then again here are the police I just could not believe that one either.mean while got in touch with primary Dr asked again if Momhad infection answer yes. so things got worked out to certain point but wanted to explain to some of you that were kind and tried to help me this is why I was and am so upset thank you again for support when I make bunch mistakes typing most likely because i'm in hurry to get feedback from someone truthfully if I NEED TO TALK to anyone my family at cementary and do not get answers there truthfully do not have no family member to speak with or give support, Hope you understand have good day Love SANDY22

Sue - you have been caregiving a long time and now your husband is seriously ill. All of this is very hard on you. I really wonder if it is time for your mum to be placed in a facility. You have too much on your plate and your own health can suffer. Please make sure you look after you in the midst of all this care giving. You deserve as good care as any other family member gets. (((((((hugs)))))

sandy, if there is no UTI, there is no need for antibiotics and if she is making false reports to 911, then back off and let the hospital finish their psych eval on her. I'm so sorry, but severe dementia needs memory care at some point. It sounds like mom is at that point. Get some rest if you can.

Sandy,

Thanks for the clarity. I get it. My heart goes out to you. It sounds like it is time for your mom to be in some kind of care facility. Have you spoken to the Agency on Aging? They really helped me a lot. When an OFFICIAL agency makes a recommendation, people tend to listen. Does your mom have a social worker maybe appointed by the hospital? You need a great offensive team. Get your mom into care.

Good Grief! You would think that once dementia had been established, that what Mom had to say would be taken with a grain of salt, but I guess they need to follow up on everything that they can. What if they didn't and it was true?

I'm sorry that you feel like you're just buttin' a stump as they say. Working hard and getting nowhere. Do you not feel that it is time to place Mom in a facility? Please, come here to "talk" anytime you feel the need. Bear Hug for you.

This would be easier to read if you would make some paragraphs and not one long narration.

Brandy, from experience, when you type on an android phone, you can't make paragraphs.

I just tried. It doesn't work.

Ilovemom, a good geriatric neurologist might be able to provide a diagnosis and prognosis and change up meds to avoid anything that is making her worse, and maybe find something that will help at least a little.

And Sandy, this is very wild stuff, but mom HAS got dementia and wild stuff will inevitably continue and get worse every time she has any infection or increased pain. Don't panic. Stay cool and help the docs assess which meds may make her worse or better. My mom used to get delirious and start yelling and swinging her purse at people; UTI or cellulitis was usually the culprit. She did well on Sinemet and Neurontin, but badly on Aricept and a diabetes medication, plus she had hallucinations on Cymbalta (though it honestly did help her mood and her pain) which went away when I finally talked someone into stopping it and trying the Neurontin instead. All of those meds were good, legitimate things to try, and the careful assessment and feedback from me and from staff caring for her (I was long distance for her in an assisted living that we hoped would be temporary in those days) was invaluable in getting it sorted out and getting her the best quality of life she could have.

Sandy my friends Mom gets UTI often. She called the dr. and dr said she needed to see a neurologist, WHY? What are they going to do with a 94 year old anyway? TREAT HER FOR UTI...That works every time.... TREAT THE EASIEST THING FIRST ESPECIALLY AT THAT AGE.
