My 86 year old mother has alzheimers, is in assisted living residence. We applied over 8 months ago for VA veterans benefit. My dad was in WW11 and retired from the Air Force. She gets a $1,386 for SS and Civil Service annuity. I am currently paying $1,450 for the difference in her assisted living costs which seem to increase monthly. I am a widow myself, running out of funds fast! I don't know how much longer I can continue to pay. How do I speed up VA? The VA periodically send me a form letter saying they are working on her application, be patient. I provided all the necessary documentation to the local VA office, Her care cost has inceased almost $200.00 since we applied eight months ago.

I have recently written to my district Congressman and State Senator in SC. Both offices answered, but last line in each letter was "If you don't hear from us in 5-6 weeks, write again." I've been waiting 9 months now to hear from the VA. Costs for my mother continue to go up at Asst. Living Home.

They probably move that slow in hopes that by the time it is approved it will no longer be needed!

Your frustration resonates, believe me! However, if anyone knows who to speed up the process, I'd love to hear from them. I don't think there is anyway to make them go faster, but I'm serious. Has anyone out there been able to speed up the VA process?
Good luck to you. I hope they are almost ready with your case.
