I live with my mother and want to find a way to take care of her myself instead of paying an expensive agency, but I need to work to support myself, can I get paid instead? In Springfield?

Find Care & Housing
Your mother would do the paying. Be sure to have a business contract and specify everything. Days off, vacations, who subs if you are sick, etc. But, as I read this you are living with her. Are you a tenant? I know these seem like crazy things to cover, but if she ever needs medicaid, there is a 5 year look back at her finances.

Up in the search function, type in Getting Paid. Your question is asked frequently.

We (that post here) suggest not quitting your job, until you have your answers as to how you will get paid and cover your own retirement and health insurance.

Good luck. Is it Springfield, IL?

szrhppy63, I see from your profile that your Mom had Alzheimer's/Dementia and please note that her condition will not get better, will not stay the same, it will become worse. Most adult children do not get paid for caring for their parent. Medicaid might be able to help you out but your Mom would need to qualify, and most States have a waiting list.

Are you really ready to become a 24 hour seven days a week Caregiver, with no days off? You will need to call in for help. Call your local Council on Aging and see what is available. You can get an Aide who will stop by for a couple of house to help you out. Otherwise you will burn out very quickly.
