Mom was diagnosed at the age of 76 with mental impairment. Now at 80 the dementia is much much worse and affects her speech so much at times she sounds "drunk." BUT, mom still has a valid CA driver's license and she should in no way, shape or form be driving. I turned her in to the Department of Motor Vehicle, they brought her in, took her out for a test drive and they PASSED her ..... I almost died. OMG, there is no way she should be driving, she is going to hit somebody with her big old car and then the cop will probably think she has been drinking because of her speech issues. I've asked her to stop driving, she refuses. I undid the battery, she found a neighbor to "fix" it. She's very very stubborn. Any suggestions? Im exhausted.

Here is an excellent article about elders and driving. https://www.agingcare.com/articles/is-it-time-to-take-away-the-keys-112306.htm

One thing we need to remember, if we take away something from an elder [such as their means to drive] then we need to replace it with something else.... such as you doing all the driving, a senior taxi service, or senior bus service.
