You preview the different memory care places in the area, decide which one is the best for your Mom, and if there is a room available then your Mom can move in quickly.... or you might have to place her on a waiting list usually with a refundable deposit. It will be up to the memory care place to evaluate your Mom to see if the care facility is the right fit for her.

Now regarding cost, it would be either self-pay, meaning Mom pays the monthly cost, or if Mom doesn't have the funds then she would need to qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid may or may not have your Mom go into memory care, instead into a nursing home which accepts Medicaid, which hopefully has a memory care section.
