Find Care & Housing
LOL123, start slowly thinning out the times... like tell Dad you have something important to do next weekend, but you will pick him up the weekend after that. Then do every other weekends for awhile. Then thin it out more. Every third weekend. With dementia it won't be too long before your Dad will start to lose track of what day it is.

You can also check with the nursing home and see if there is an activity that they have planned for the weekend that you know your Dad would enjoy.... you can tell him that the gang hopes he will be there, so don't disappoint them.

It is ok to use "therapeutic lies" to try to keep Dad at the nursing home. Such as you feel you are coming down with a cold and you don't want him to catch it.... the car needs to go in for maintenance.... the weather looks bad for traveling.... if you work, say that you are needed in the office this weekend, etc. Play it by ear.
