Like Disney channel or kids PBS, for elders & NO disturbing ads. It would be great to have a channel I could trust to give her good images and feel-good shows, at a preschool pace. She enjoys the PBS kids shows, and the cooking and home repair shows, but then they'll show ads with murder in them, or I'll find her unable to operate the remote to turn off a rock band that came on after her show. Many times, their joy of reading is denied them, as they can no longer process the words on the page. Their impressionable brains absorb the anxiety from the ads for the evening news, and crime dramas and fast-paced movies are too confusing and disturbing. Turner Classic Movies sometimes work, but I have to vet the lineup. Hallmark ditto. She loves British comedies, but on PBS the news comes on after those. Anybody have ideas? What do you turn on when you need them to settle and be diverted? I've thought a DVD player with a disk changer might work. Do they still make those? I am creating a playlist on YouTube that helps, but I'd still like a channel if it exists somewhere? Thanks!

What I have done is to download a few of Mom's favorite movies to the iPad. Sound of Music, South Pacific, etc. She watches them over and over again. My Mom's Alzheimer's is entering severe stage. I have to start and stop the shows for her, and naturally she stops the movie when she touches the screen. Did your Mom like shows like Ozzie and Harriet, I Love Lucy, My Three Sons? Some of the older family shows may have their own YouTube channels.

Others:
I Dream of Jeannie
Dick Van Dyke
My Three Sons
Jack Benny
Bonanza
Perry Mason

Maybe there is a YouTube Looney Tunes channel?

My mother is the same way. She can no longer watch the news or really, anything that might suggest harm. Or even not harm. Just depends on how she "hears" it. We were in PetSmart today and someone came over the loud speaker.... at thtat time we were visiting the elderly pups up for adoption.... thought the world had ended.

You can always download Ebooks... mom used to enjoy them before she wasn't able to keep up.... be as it may, she truly loves watching "Frozen". yep, I know all the songs word for word... really it depends on your loved one and how far along they are. Things that used to calm them are very helpful... again, depends on the person.

My mother can still watch westerns.... they don't seem to bother her.

Best wishes for you both!

Another option may be an online streaming service like Netflix or Hulu Plus if you watch on a computer or other device. If you want to watch on your tv look into getting a Roku box. I would think you could email Hulu and Netflix to get a complete list of the classic shows that they have available. Is she a sports fan? Old games can be found online and I know my Mom would not know the difference between a 40 year old game or a current one.

I have also found interesting "old home movie" channels on Youtube by searching for her home town and a time period. E.g. I typed in "Albemarle NC 1940s" into the Youtube search box, and lots of things came back. Mom loves looking at those old picture slideshows or the compilations of home movies posted. It was a town near her home in the time-period she grew up, so it's very familiar to her and always makes her smile. I can't let her sit with an Ipad alone though.
