She is incontinent and wears depends, but has accidents! I'm besides myself when I put her clean laundry in her dresser and find dirty clothing hidden in the drawers! When I confronted her about this, she pretended not to know and told me to stay out of her room! It seems like new bad habits are being adopted by her lately! Has anyone else experienced that with a parent that lives with them?

daffey, Pam is right that she may be hiding them out of embarrassment. Just let her know that you know she has accidents sometimes, and that if she'll put them in a certain place, you'll make sure to clean them. If she won't do that, you may just have to sneak in her room and look for soiled clothes.

I wondered if she is still able to do laundry. She may be more comfortable cleaning her own things if she can. My mother still does much of her own laundry. I can always tell when she had an accident when the washing machine goes on at an odd time. I don't say anything, because I know she needs her privacy when it comes to things like this. I don't get upset with her accidents, because I know they happen sometimes.

Daffey, does she also have dementia? My mother started to be incontinent a few years ago. We didn't realize because she has dementia and doesn't do laundry. She was throwing her underpants away when she soiled them and, of course denying it. We got her pads and Depends which she used most of the time. But, due to the dementia, we would find soiled ones in the garbage, under the sink, in the hamper and sometimes in her drawers. With her dementia, she started thinking of the pants type Depends as if they were underwear and that belongs in the drawer.

She is hiding them so you won't yell at her.
