How do I go about finding info on my Dad's military service?

He served during WWII, but my mother doesn't seem to know any other info. He was born in Raleigh, NC, and as far as I know was honorably discharged after serving his time. My mother is now 92, and I'm beginning the process of having to look for an assisted living facility for her. I was told about the Veterans' benefit at a lawyer's office this past week, and need to know as soon as possible where I need to go from here.

We found out that during WWII they did not get a DD214, the document was called "Notice of Separation" and VA wanted the original or a certified copy.

..... you will also need his SS#. Look in his paperwork for DD214 discharge paper.

I would start by calling your local Veteran's office. They will tell you. The fact he served during wartime gives him more benefits.

go to va.gov and do a records search. You will need his discharge certificate, their marriage certificate, and if either one was married before, all those certificates. we worked with elderbenefitsconsulting.com, they were a huge help.
