My mother is suffering from spinal stinousus. She is scheduled for surgery to help remedy this at the end of march. Because of the condition at the moment the mobility of her legs is limited. We are located in an apartment complex that has step in tub / bath only. I am looking for a facility where I can bring her several times a week before surgery that has either a no step shower or ideally a sit down tub. She currently bathes on a regular basis, i am just looking to make her life easier until the surgery and ensure her dignity at the same time. Trained and certified staff is of course a requirement. I would be grateful for any suggestions or advice you my have on this matter.

Find Care & Housing
We stayed in a number of hotels' handicap accessible rooms. The best one I saw was a Homewood suites which had the entire bathroom tiled, so you could conceivably sit on the toilet and use the hand spray! That one also had a shower seat. The LaQuinta we used only had the bathtub with hand spray. How about calling local (less expensive) hotels and see what they have. Many will let you go look at the room before paying.

Or have you looked into a shower chair where she can slide from outside the tub to in?

Some PT facilities have accessible showers. Would she benefit from PT before the surgery? Discuss this with her doctor, in tandem with a bath aide, which the doctor can order.

One suggestion is to check with your local Agency on Aging to see if they know of anything like what you are referring. Go to the link below, find your State, then find your County.

We were told this is normally a procedure that only requires an overnight stay. However because of her circumstances they would evaluate her and see how much relief the surgery gives. The way her insurance is set if they want to send her to a rehab she has to stay in hospital care for three days before they will authorize payment so that remains an unknown. As I said I am hoping for the best and just trying to make life as easy and pleasant for her until we can cross this hurdle. But thank you for your response.

I'm not aware of any resource on this site that will help you find what you are looking for in Daytona Beach, FL.

I'm not even sure that what you are describing exists for a come and go facility for her to bathe in several times a week before surgery.

Will she be going to rehab after her surgery?
