The Premier bathtubs are unreasonable expensive -- $150 a month for 150 months (yikes!). My parents paid about $1200 for their walk-in shower. It is perfect for them. They got a simple walk-in and set a shower seat in it.

You can get a kit to cut a square out of the side of the tub so there's only a lip of a couple of inches. My mom lives in an independent living facility and they retrofitted their old tubs with the cut-out feature. It's much cheaper than a walk-in tub. If you google "tub cut out kit" you'll see what I'm talking about. They run a couple hundred dollars and then whatever it would take a handyman to complete the job.

I would make sure to have your mother test the tub. My mom who has Parkinsons hoped that this type of tub would be the answer to her prayers. It was not. The step into the tub was about 4 inches which may not seem like much but is higher than some basic walkin shower. My mother was taken in by a smoorh talking salesman who convinced her that this tub would keep her out of the nursing home. That's all mom needed to hear. Mom spent close to 15k on this shower and it did not work for her. It may work for your mom but if she's really having severe mobility problems, a regular walkin shower with a shower chair PLUS a home aide to help to assist her may be better and cheaper. My mom ended up having her premier bath taken out and a the regular walkin shower put back and a cna comes in to help her. Good luck.
