My husband is unable to get down the steps and we don't think we can handle him in a wheelchair, so the only option is ambulance transport, it seems, and we can't afford it. He needs a blood transfusion and fluid removed from his abdomen. These are life-sustaining treatments.

Does your prescribing physician know that such assistance will be required, to get the precribed treatments? Perhaps he could also precribe the medical transport, but your insurance policy may not cover it. Alternatively, could the medications be transfused in your home by a home health aide? You might find that easier, than transporting your husband. I hope your doctor or their office can provide some friendly assistance. You are so very good to be searching far and wide to try and make the best choice for him.
