Maybe father-in-law has decided it is now time for him to go into the final chapter of his life. Is he on hospice watch?

Is your FIL in a hospice center or nursing home? They could probably give you some input based on their experience. Who told you that he has end of life dementia? Are you the health care POA?

I have read on this site about those who are near the end of this life. I haven't encountered that with my loved ones yet, but hopefully some people here who have can post what they have encountered.

When my husband was on hospice care, they told us that sleeping more than 20 hours a day was a sign the end was near. He reached that. The few hours he was awake he was alert, sometimes ate, liked popscycles, and could talk pretty coherently. He died in his fifth week of hospice care.

What your FIL is going through may be related to the infection. Or it could be end-of-life behavior. If you do not currently have hospice care for him, I recommend it.

While you are waiting to hear back from the doctor Google stages and signs of the dying process, this may help you. Sleeping longer and not eating and drinking are the signs that I experienced before the end of life. As the others have said her either call his doctor or talk to hispice people.
