I failed to mention he is also mentally disabled and has been living with me for 2 years now, since the passing of my mother (his only sibling).

Well, he needs to pay you a full time wage. What are you making right now? And is that for 40 hours a week? You will be working a lot more than, that, taking care of him.

Think about what it would cost for him to be in a NH.

Private full time care, here, in AZ., with a staff of 3 trained care takers in $11,000 per month. As you have already said, a sitter is $15.00 per hour. It would be reasonable for you to charge more than that.

I was self employed but had to sell my espresso stand a year and a half ago to care for him. I owned and operated it for 10 years but didn't make enough to pay for outside help. It ate up all my profits so I sold it to stay home with him. I'm asking for $2725.00 per month that will also including all his utilities to his rv and all the things mentioned above. My sister thinks that's to much, and I will be taxed on that amount too. I have worked in health care as a cna for years before I was self employed. In hospital's and nursing homes, so I know how to care for him. But sis doesn't want him, only his money :( We live in wa. and assisted living here is about 3500.to 3800. per month and he would loose some of his freedoms like going fishing and being with family that love him.

Your request is not unreasonable, but does he even have that kind of income? My sister only gets about $1500/mo in SSI, Medicaid picks up the rest of the cost for her group home.

Yes he does. My Grandmother (his mother) made sure he would have a monthly income that would be more than enough to care for him. But now sis wants to be in control of it to support my brother that has a drug problem so he is now under a guardianship. His guardian said she is contesting the amount I'm asking for. Which is 1000.00 less than asst. living and much better care and family interaction. It's also were he wants to be.

Tell the Guardian to make a decent counter offer with consideration of your certification.

If I didn't love him and thought that there was any chance he would go stay with her, my counter offer would be that she take him for 6 months a year. I would love some time in my own home with my husband. Just to get a break we now have to leave are home and find someone to stay with him. That's not easy or cheep as they have to know how to care for his urostomy bag and change his bedding and shower him when his bag has leaked during the night or day for that matter. He has no bladder so his urine is very strong!! During a hospital stay the nurses asked me to do his bag change (it's hard to put on and they don't deal with them a lot.) He stayed with her for about 6 weeks before she sent him to me after he broke his hip at her home 2 years ago. He say's he will never go back. He won't even talk to her on the phone right now. I tried to get him to call her on Christmas but he won't talk to her :( It will break my heart to put him in a facility but it may come to that. I'm only 55 and need to go back to work if I'm not paid to care for him. Can't do both, I tried, but he was always calling and I would have to drop everything and go home to tend to his needs. really torn on what to do !!! Take a huge pay cut or put him in a facility. My 1st offer was as low as I can go, so we will see what the judge says.
