I got everything I need to get ready to speak with this social worker about my grandmother's condition and living arrangements, but I have power of attorney and my grandmother is currently living with my cousin. My cousin is freaking out that the social worker will ask her a bunch of questions even though i am going to be there. Will the social worker ask my cousin anything even though the most my cousin is doing is giving her a place to live? She does my grandma's laundry occasionally but i still do the shopping and bill paying.

I am a case worker and work mainly with elders. The case worker will need to know specifics which may seem very intrustive but need to be answered to get financial help such as amount of income, source of income, assets, and Medicare, Medicaid or other health insurance information.. He/she will your grandmother is and what funding programs she is eligible for such as ones that pay for services such as transportation, home delivered meals, care, etc. After all of the information is gathered the case worker will develop a care plan. Also you know your grandmother best and you can advocate for her. and both of you can/should contribute to the care plan.

Wow Kari thanks for that answer, it seems rather simple although there are many questions to answer. Seems like just be honest and everything will be okay.

There are many times that case/social workers are demonized and everyone is afraid of you. Thank you for being so open and honest and please answer other questions that pop up as well. We would like to hear your side of the story!
