I am concerned that those in the so called health industry endorse Ensure for the elderly when it contains high fructose corn syrup. Almond milk is a healthier alternative.

ensure also comes in a glucose control form, probably minus the corn syrup.

Even still. I find it really unethical that medical personnel and other recommend Ensure to the elderly (or any food with HFCS).

Yes, I agree! In fact, I have a theory that the reason for the inexplicable increase in adult onset diabetes in the last 15 years is directly related to the ever increasing inclusion of HFCS in prepared foods and soft drinks....also something that has been on the rise in the very same last 15 years.

And it isn't because it is MORE sugar but because HFCS should NOT be used or regarded as sugar. The body, the pancreas, does not recognize it as such, I don't believe, and is unable to deal with it. So eventually insulin production is hindered or ceases altogether. Anyone with type II Diabetes supposedly should NOT become insulin dependent, according to what I learned in nursing school 20 years ago. Back then only a small percentage of overweight adults got NIDDM type II and they were invariably overweight. Oral hypoglycemics were sufficient to treat the disease. Now it is not that way at all. So I know something is causing the rise and the insulin dependence...I think it must be in our diet.

I don't think people in the health care field, though, can be always relied upon to view true health with the proper perspective. No longer working as an RN and learning so much in other areas of life, I see now that health is not something that can be achieved and maintained with prescriptions and supplements and all manner of human-devised chemistry no more than we can treat our Earth good by artificially altering what is naturally already perfect.
I don't think HCFS is that much of a concern for the health care field in general...they rely on the things that are manufactured and promoted for them to dole out or prescribe to the CONSUMER. Not the 'patient' but the 'consumer,' if you dig. "~)

I make my mom milkshakes and add that Carnation Instant Breakfast powder into them which my mom likes better. She hates the taste of any supplement. But I'm sitting here typing this thinking I have not read the label lately on the instant breakfast packet box. It probably has HFCS, too. It is so hard to get away from!

Yes, Babalon, I agree. The fact is that billions of dollars are made by keeping people fat and ridden with diseases - and HFCS is the culprit behind much of the obesity epidemic, along with other health and mental diseases. People are brainwashed to think that "if the FDA approves it must be okay" - Hogwash.

Brainwashing...the true American epidemic.

At any rate, I checked the label on the Carnation Instant Breakfast box (although they changed the name of the product recently to Breakfast Essentials)...NO HFCS!

Wow. It has SUGAR.

And yes, my mom is diabetic, but when I found out Sweet-n-Low was made from COAL TAR, I quit worrying any more at all about substituting for sugar and instead put all my energies into trying to get as much naturally and organically grown and minimally processed food on our diet.

Even WITH a little regular white sugar in food where necessary but WITHOUT any HFCS if I can possibly help it...her blood sugars are far better than they used to be and she takes 4-7 units less of insulin for her regular daily dose.

Mother Nature is the true genius in chemistry...mankind is nothing but a wannabe mad scientist...who forgot everything he learned in apprenticeship and is instead in the basement working on a monster with bolts in his neck.

So Happy Memorial Day, Friends!
GOD bless America.

Babalo, sugar is another evil. Try Stevia. There are flavored stevia drops that are delicious too!
