Actually, I will be calling her primary in the morning. It's day 8, I've already given her 2 tbsp. of milk of mag. earlier in the day. Last night she was given a suppository. She's eating mostly liquids and a little stewed chicken for dinner. Did a bit of walking (she's not actually ambulatory). No cramping, but a lot of gas and yawning. This is crazy. She's always been regular. I feel like we're living with a time bomb. Thanks for your advice, Carol.
don't do a fleet, but it wouldn't hurt to give additional colace. Is she having pain in her belly? Elderly often get impactions, or often (this is gross) have a hard chunk of stool kinda clogging up the pipe work. If she'll allow you to feel around and your willing you will be able to feel the stool if that the problem.
First, thank you so much for your support. Some people said give the Fleet others said don't, especially if the stool is high up then the Fleet wouldn't affect it. What I wound up doing was giving her 2 Tbsp. of milk of mag. in the morning, She had no pain or discomfort but did feel like there was a blockage. By the evening, she finally "went" and it was a normal xtra large stool! Did you hear me shout "Hallelujah?" Often she has a vago-vasal reaction (faints) when she's been constipated for more than 3 days. You can imagine our concern. This appears to be what my life is about these days: did she "go" today? It's a new day....
