I am worried about mom who is 83 and myself. We are on hydrocodone 5/500mg for chronic pain. Mom has rheumatoid arthritis. I have fibromyalgia sciatica osteoarthritis. Mom takes it when she goes out food shopping on weekends. I take it daily once or twice. I am very worried. My dr doesn't seem concerned about this at all. I am reading things on the web of addiction and withdrawal with this medication. Please someone help who is on this med. thank you very much

Find Care & Housing
My mother (also 83) was given this in rehab when she had terrific shoulder pain. It did help the pain, but gave her hallucnations. They decreased the dosage then I had them switch her to extra strength tylenol.
There is potential for addiction and every drug has side effects. I have not had much luck in speaking with physicians....they are so "pill and surgery" oreinted that they will rarely discus the side effects or hazards with being on any drug long term. They are also opposed to naturopathic remedies...so shortsighted!
I suppose it is like anything else, you have to weigh the benefits against the potential dangers.
I have had more luck speaking with Mom's pharmicist - they are a wealth of information. And, of course, researching on the Internet is always wise.
