Elder Abuse and mail fraud. Any advice?

Stealing mail is a federal offense. Contact your post office for starters.

First, you cannot accuse someone of a crime without proof, but it sounds like the post office will back you up. Call the police. Let them investigate the landlady and granddaughter because if they are this calculating, they might be dangerous and try to harm you physically. I hope you are now living in a safe place, go to the local social security office yourself and tell them your situation. No checks or direct deposit can be made without written permission from you and change and close any bank accounts and credit cards. Also, you can contact each credit bureau and have them put a "fraud alert" on your credit file with your own statement. I've had to go through this even though my husband's case was a little different. Hope the police arrest these two for fraud and you get your life back!

I'm very sorry to hear of your situation. I suggest you file a report of stolen mail with the post office as a first step. I recommend filing a report with the local police department. I would also consider contacting those who sent your annuity papers and alert them of the theft. If elder abuse occurred, the police and your local senior center should be able to identify resources for filing the abuse charges, and posible free legal assistance. I wish you the very best.
