My mom is 84 years. Her limbs are paralysed. She is being fed by me and my sisters. She had bronchial congestion and cough recently and was given medication for it. She now refuses to drink any liquids. She willingly eats solids. I am worried as liquids are important for her health.

If it was me, I would want jell-o, ice cream, pudding, yogurt and strawberry shortcake.
French fries with gravy, please, or a sweet potato with butter and honey (sigh).

I absolutely agree with the fear of aspiration, that's maybe how she got the congestion in the first place. soft foods are the way to go. offer only small spoonsful and allow her plenty of time to swallow. as one ages muscles weaken and it becomes more difficult to chew and swallow. Be sure to watch her carefully as you feed her so she does not choke. Prop her up if you can to eat. Give her your full attention "Don't text and feed" Liquids can be thickened with a substance called "thicket" but if anyone ever gives me a cup of tea with thicket it they will be cleaning it up! things like Jello are good too and ice cream and sherbutt Make sure you keep her mouth clean and moist and lips smoothed with Chapstick or similar. If her urine is pale yellow and clear she is not dehydrated.

Watermelon works great. Ice chips are crunchy. She may be afraid of aspirating the liquid.

Can she chew grapes? Jello? Cucumbers? Does she give a reason, or is she unable to talk?
