Find Care & Housing
My company designs websites. The reason these site owners don't fix this one is because there is no "incentive" to do so. People who come here are looking to get or give help, they're not spending money so who cares if they leave out of frustration. Not sure if this site gets funding other than from the advertisers but fixing a website costs money. I agree this site is "inelegant" but it provides so much real help to so many and I wished I had found it when my multi-senior dumpster fire was ablaze. That's why I'm here now. You provide so much critical info, insight and compassion. If you leave...wah!!! but I will totally understand and you will be very missed.

It is frustrating Barb, I agree.
The old agingcare set up was better.
But you will be very much missed if you go., so please reconsider.

Barb, I understand the frustration! There’s a lengthy thread that as of yesterday was still getting replies—replies TO replies and I gave up trying to find them :(

I sincerely hope you stay with us. I appreciate your wealth of knowledge & input. It’s a shame our complaints about the accessibility on this site continue to be ignored.

Please don't go, Barb. Your wisdom is appreciated. So few have the sense of order and self that you do.

How about the rest of us refrain from replying to individual comments and only reply on the thread, even if we have to use quotes from above?

Sometimes you can use the browser to search the page by the username from the news feed and find the reply post, but only sometimes. When there are multiple replies, the page doesn't always load all the replies until that "2 more replies" text is pressed.

You were one of the first persons to respond to me when I first joined here. It was very reassuring. One of the others has sadly left. Another poster told me she was being taken advantage of and getting abuse so she felt she had to leave. I don't understand all the goings on about that but I missed her input as I would yours. I hope you reconsider. I certainly don't understand all the methods of this site. I often wonder how someone can find out so much about a certain poster's past history here. I have to admit I slowly have learned more and when I really needed help an administrator did reach out in a timely manner. I guess we all have our frustrations but many are at times helped here with them. My family doesn't always get the time I spend here. I recently moved to a different area and don't have a support system in place other than when I exercise and see people there. I am alright with that. I am in a very friendly area but I doubt I will ever make any true friends. I have been helped here. You would be sorely missed. Hope you feel less frustration.

Barb,
No pressure to stay, it's just that you are a lighthouse in a storm, a source of experience and stability, someone others can trust for answers.

When I get worn out, and need to post less often, I feel it is okay because of people like you, standing strong, holding the line on common sense and reality, imo.

Bluefin, that’s a good idea. No replies, just new comments. When there’s more than a few comments the replies are almost impossible to find. Waste of time. Especially if the OP doesn’t post much.
I agree I hope you don't leave Barb. I like to read your insights and it’s to have another New Yorker here.

Barb, I'm so sorry you are leaving but I do understand & share your frustration with this site. I hope, after a time, you come back.

I agree, I agree, I agree!!!

It is impossible to find the most recent response when it is buried in a reply to another comment. What if we just all agree not to use the "Reply to" feature? It's easy enough to state in your response that you're replying to so-and-so, right?

I so agree, this site is not user friendly. The inability to edit after a very short time, or for that matter delete your post, is ridiculous...and...not being able to comment on a persons post drives me nuts.

I do appreciate your valuable input!

There needs to be a link straight to the comment reply that shows in the news feed!

I'm not sure Barb if this helps or is what your looking for but have you seen the News Feed and Activity options in the drop down to the right of the search feature at the top? I found them a while ago but well after I started using the forum and while they could do more it did help with my frustration trying to figure out how to revisit threads I was participating in too. Click on the circle up there with leaves maybe (?) I think it's their logo.

That’s not what she’s looking for and those features don’t help. She’s complaining about the inability to find replies on a post. When there are multiple replies and multiple replies TO the replies, it is damn near impossible to read the latest reply because of the way the site is set up.

When or if I make comments on posts I go to my activity portion of my profile and it shows the most recent and then I go to that. It's only if I made made a comment on that post or my own.
I hope this helps.
Please stay, I always have appreciated your input on the different situations on here.

Barb, I totally, 1000% agree with you.   The profile function has been sticking lately so it's hard to get information on a poster's background.   I've had numerous problems with posts being truncated or moved while posting or editing, sections for some reason aren't formatted properly and don't remain where I typed them.

Another irritant is that the issue categories literally have no meaning, as all threads are aggregated together in one long string of threads.

And two more are (a) the limited time for editing, and (b) the "reply to" function for response to a poster's individual comments.   These responses are outside of the date order of the post, and sometimes difficult to find.    I've gone through threads repeatedly, checking each "reply to" before finding what I'm looking for .  That's a waste of time.

If I want to follow or respond to a specific thread, I add the URL into my Excel database.    Going through all the posts, or just checking the News Feed is tedious and wastes time.

Perhaps the most offensive and uncomfortable practice though is the inability to delete private messages.  We did SEEM to have that option before the management changeover, but in experimenting one day I was able to find posts I had written months and years ago, many of which I had deleted.  Yet they were still there.    That's troubling.

More than anything else (including the fake posts), this dysfunctionality irritates me and causes me to just go to one of my favorite forums  that are configured differently.

The one aspect I do think is worthwhile is not posting all who are online at one time; that privacy is nice.

But like the others, I find your insights invaluable and wouldn't want you to leave, but every time I'm here I start mentally growling at the dysfunctionality and ask myself why I even bother.

Here I go, replying when, yes the reply function drives me BATTY! For one, it makes it nearly impossible to find some posts that appear on my feed unless Ingo through all comments. Then I get irritated because it is in the replies that so many inappropriate comments and know it all statements, rude comebacks and just plain nastiness come out.
