I spoke to the attorney handling all my folks guardianship documents. I really like this gal she has a good heart for my family. Anyway she said for me to research the rate it would cost to have someone pack up their life and move them. This is about 1800 square feet of lots of stuff I have a house to support in my home town, medicine, food, my bills. I'm overwhelming myself as I type, doesn't take much these days, GEEZ!!!! Any thoughts guys?

The federal rate is 56 cents per mile for travel in an automobile. If you go to the upack website, they give estimates if you have both zipcodes.

I would charge mileage, travel expenses (food and lodging) and then call a few local moving places (in parents area) and find out a basic charge for packing and moving. Then you can compensate for that. Are you going to be moving their stuff yourself or a moving company? If not, and you are just supervising the packing, etc. then maybe consider X hrs at $15-20/hr.

Whatever you decide, make sure you keep good records, receipts so you can justify if it were challenged by a sibling or other family. If you have to take vacation from work -- then you might just want to charge your weekly salary vs. hrly rate.

Thats what I would do.

I'd call up a national moving company like Atlas or Suddath and ask them how much they'd charge to pack up an 1800 sq ft. house and transport it given the zipcodes - that should give you a very accurate idea of what it would cost if professionals did it.
