Does the VA take most of the assets like Medicaid does?

My husband with dementia is a veteran eligible for VA care.

No they do not. VA does not have anything like MERP. They also allow greater amounts of assets in hand.

So does VA allow a spouse to keep more of the savings/assets if the veteran has to go into their nursing home facility?
