My mom's sugar is really out of control and she is really not taking care of herself. She needs to check it 3 times a day. She only checks it at night...now she has to inject insulin 2 times a day. My brother lives with her but he works so he helps at night. My father lives there but he is old too..he needs it too. We just need a nurse to go for 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon.

Jackie, how long has it been since your mom and dad went to their doctor? If Mom does not realize how important it is for her to take her diabetes medication, she probably isn’t eating well either. My son-in-law is diabetic and he sees his doctor once a month. It sounds like Dad needs to go to the doctor too. If you can get them to go, go with them and explain to the doctor what’s going on. I remember reading on here that Medicare/Medicaid probably won’t pay for a nurse to come out just to give shots. But the doctor might be able to help them qualify for other help they might need. Does your mom realize she must take care of herself or possibly wind up in the hospital seriously ill? If not, you might want to tell the doctor that too. Maybe it’s time for them to go to Assisted Living?

It's based on need and actual treatment for something. If she needs serious continuous treatment, not observation they might approve multiple visits a week, not day. If they need that much supervision they might recommend a stay in a hospital or facility to educate and monitor her.

Over simplified but if the patient doesn't need treatment they probably won't get hospital stays approved. If a patients numbers aren't good are they are considered not well until they are then they might approve every other day or something. BUT coverage for non compliant patients could be stopped as well. Warn her.
