My boyfriend is the full time caregiver for his grandfather and I am see my boyfriend about to lose his mind. We are rarely able go out and do anything without his grand father who never wants to leave the house. He is unable to walk after a hip breakage. Is there any programs that can give my boyfriend any type of relief so my boyfriend can have time for himself? Will medicare pay for this? Thank you.

I am interested in this answer as well. My mom is being discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. She needs around the clock care, and I will be doing that. I have been living with her but now she will need assistance with everything.

Medicare only pays for nursing and CNA's, locate a senior resource program in your area, we went through a program in our state to get help with companions, which is what I call a babysitter for mom, just to keep her safe while I am at work. Have friends come in and sit with her when I need to run errands or I want to go anywhere

Lynne, if you are concerned about cost you need to get the application for medicaid going. That is, I am assuming if Mom does not have any resources.

I don't know where u live, but I know here in south Carolina, the lower Savannah council on aging is giving a1500 Grant to cg for out of pocket expenses.

CG = caregiver. Interesting program to provide grants! Might have to check in with our Agency on Aging. It has been a couple of years.
